Milk Bar Opening New Dessert Wonderland in NYC
Just in time for Thanksgiving, Milk Bar – the beloved bakery from two-time James Beard Award–winning pastry chef Christina Tosi – is opening a new flagship location this Saturday at 29th Street and Broadway in the former John Dory Oyster Bar space.
No doubt, fans of the bakery's signature Milk Bar Pie, B'Day Truffles and Compost Cookies will swarm the new store. But at 5,000 square feet, it's much bigger than the mini-shops the brand has traditionally had.
"This Flagship is our love letter to New York, the beloved city where we first got our start that has cheered us on ever since," said Christina Tosi in a statement, "An insanely exciting playground of food and fun, this store is our vision of joy, of adventure come to life, a wonderland unlike anything we’ve ever dreamt up — where we invite the world in to flip dessert on its head, send a care package or two and tap into their own creativity alongside us."

What that means in practical terms is that the shop will have all sorts of fun features, like Build-A-Cake and a Build-A-Cookie stations (where you can customize your desserts with your preferred fillings and flavor combos), a mini-mart with culinary items as well as branded merchandise, a mail box for sending care packages, a classroom space (which will open in a few months), and a culinary lab, which will be testing food items that haven't been approved yet (they'll be available to sample). If you aren't sure you'd like to buy an entire cake, you''ll also have the option to buy it by the slice for the first time.
The store will even have something – albeit, not a lot –for those who don't have much of a sweet tooth; they'll be selling their classic "Bagel Bombs," along with new Eggplant Parm Bombs, Italian Hero Bombs and Pepperoni Bombs. Eat a few of those and wash them down with a slice of pie (and perhaps a few truffles), and you've got yourself a perfectly balanced meal.
