Levain Bakery Opens Upper East Side Location
Levain – the Upper West Side bakery known for its enormous, gooey chocolate chip cookies – has arrived on the Upper East Side with a new location on Third Avenue and 84th Street.
“We felt like it was a really perfect fit for us. A lot of customers we know live by the new space,” one of Levain's co-owners, Pam Weekes, told AM New York. “It was just perfect.”
And as an extra treat, this new location will serve a totally new item – ice cream sandwiches, made with the company's signature cookies.

Weekes founded Levain with her friend Connie McDonald in 1994, when they began a "passionate dialog about creating the world’s greatest chocolate chip cookie." They quickly acquired an avid and loyal fan base, and lines typically snake around the corner of their original location on West 74th Street. Since then, Levain has expanded to a second UWS location, as well as one in Harlem and the Hamptons. Their website notes another location will be opening in Noho, but gives no approximate date for when that will be.
Levain joins an already pretty stacked roster of beloved baked goods on the Upper East Side; to name just two, Ladurée's first New York City location is on Madison on 71st Street, while Two Little Red Hens has long drawn crowds to Yorkville for their famous red velvet cupcakes. But of course – just like at the end of a delicious dinner – there's always room for another dessert, and no doubt plenty will flock to Levain seeking that perfect, fresh-out-of-the-oven, chocolate chip cookie.
