Celebrating the Season at Our 2019 Fall Harvest Fest
This weekend, our residents quite literally hit the hay at our annual Fall Harvest Festival. We recreated an urban farm in the middle of Chelsea, bringing in pumpkins and hay from upstate for an autumnal celebration in the courtyard of Abington House below the High Line. Residents enjoyed food and drinks, played games, made crafts, and tip-toed around the sprawling pumpkin patch.
Citarella served a delicious menu of Thanksgiving-style treats and hosted a cookie decorating station, where kids and adults could concoct their own edible masterpiece. Meanwhile, Whitmans served hotdogs, and Shake Shack was serving up their new tasty Pumpkin Shake. For those who wanted something a little warmer, the children's clothing retailer Milk & Honey Babies, had a hot chocolate bar, in addition to showing off their adorable children's clothes.
That's not all there was for the little ones; Sandbox, a brand new "STEAM-focused innovation lab" that just opened at 520 West 28th Street by Zaha Hadid hosted a "squishy Circuits" station, where kids could make their own circuits out of dough, batteries and LED lights. And Nerdy Derby, which is the first group with a residence at the Sandbox Playground, gave paper airplanes an extra boost with their special paper airplane launcher. CAMP – the "family experience" store that's opening a new location at Hudson Yards – had a camp-fire-making station (complete with marshmallows!). In addition, Illuminated Faces painted beautiful designs on attendees' faces.
But, of course, the real star of the show was the pumpkin patch, where little ones and adults delighted in rolling around in the hay, picking pumpkins and playing autumnal games like cornhole, all while listening to classic tunes played by the WMDs. All in all, the event was the perfect dose of farm life in the big city.
